Hi everyone,
My names Lizzie and I just started treatment yesterday, My Dermo put me on 30mg and I’m pretty excited to start seeing some results.
But I should probably give you all some background of my skin condition.
So I’m 15 and I have had Acne for about 3 years now. I have been prescribed too much to remember and sadly none have had a lasting effect. So here I am finally giving Roaccutane a go.
I plan to try and give updates weekly but unfortunately I have exams approaching so posts might not be as frequent as I hope.
I’m really excited but also quite nervous and if there is anybody going through this at the same time as me, please do get in touch because I’ll be interested to hear other peoples accounts of it.
Likewise, if you have any questions for me, I will be more than happy to reply.

Hi Lizzie,
im on day 14, after having tried everything since i was 13, finally at the age of 23 i decided enought is enough.
the side effects im getting are dry skin mainly of my face & neck. my lips are extra dry so be prepaired to put lip balm on every ten mins or os. as for the dry skin ive taken extra care to cover my self every other day in oilatum excma cream all over just to keep try dryness on my body at bay.
drink as much water as you can, take all the vitamins you can, dont drink (at your ages i hope your not any way!!)
hope it all goes well

Hi Lydia,
Good luck with everything, so far I’m not experiencing any side effects but I am applying lip balm every half hour or so just to be prepared.
I’m using E45 cream which is meant to be quite good but I was wondering if you had any recommendations for a moisturiser to wear under make-up?
As far as drinking goes, I steer clear of alcohol and I’m trying to drink more water, it is hard to kick Fanta though:’)

For a make up base, i use body shop oil balancing seaweed day cream and mix it with my normal no7 mattifying foundation(which is amazing on its own or mixed, really helps shine). it goes on lovely and lasts well through out the day.
i found after week 2 e45 wasnt cutting it for my face and the onlt thing that does at the moment is oilatum so i think im gunna buy a proper face mositureiser when pay day comes
im applying lip balm alomost every ten mins!!!
stick with it you soon get used to the dry itchy scalp and other stuff, im so sure it will be worth it in the end

I am almost 35 and this is my 3rd course of Roaccutane. I started my first course when I was 15 and I have to say it kept my spots at bay for a few years and then they would return. I dont have really bad acne just a few spots that keep coming back but over the last couple of years i have developed cyst like spots at the back of my ears which are really painful. Ive tried all the antibiotics and the only one that worked was Minocin but then after blood tests they found out that it was affecting my liver.
Past courses of Roaccutane I was put on a dose of 30mg but this time im on 60mg which has been a major shock to my system. Ive just completed week 2 of the treatment and the side affects are driving me crazy! Really dry and peeling skin as if you have had sunburn and lips very dry. Ive also noticed a change in mood and feel quite depressed but i think thats to do with the dry and tightness and appearance of my skin.
I have tried Eucerin Replenishing moisturiser 5%, Simple Derma Intensive moisturiser and Aquaeous Cream. I cant leave the house without makeup on and I use Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation but im finding come midday that my skin is all dry and peeling again? Any other suggestions of moisturiser I could use please?
Also does anyone suggest a good hair removal technique for bikini and legs? I used to get waxed but i know thats a big no no and i dont fancy shaving just because of the rash and bumps you get from it. Any safe hair removal creams recommended? I got my eyebrows and top lip threaded and found that fine but can mae your eyes water a bit.

Hi Alison i use Cetaphil moisturiser, wash with simple moisturising cream and use carmex on my lips which all work well for me – but not as dry as you… might be worth a try though? I think there is a cetaphil wash/lotion too?
Good luck with it Alison and let us know how you get on
