Hi everyone
I’m now 6 weeks into my treatment but sadly my skin is worse than ever. I’m just about coping with the side effects of dry skin, eyes, nose, aches and pains etc but not with the ever appearing spots.
If anyone is further ahead than me, did your skin get worse with acne and when did it improve?
My Derm nurse said a few people get worse but I didn’t think it could be this bad as my skins surface is so dry and I’m using oil free products.
The spots are all around my lower cheeks and jaw line and scab which makes them a pain to conceal as the skin peels by midday so I feel a constant mess at work ![]()
Also I got caught out in the sun this weekend as i was working outside. I’d used Simple Sun protector face cream and my body was completely covered but I actually burnt the backs of my hands and my scalp where my parting is and it’s so painful. I warn anyone that when we do get proper sun be very careful,I will be wearing a hat or bandana in future!
Hope everyone’s ok? 10 weeks to go!

Hi Louise!
I’m into my 5th month of treatment! – So any questions I can try and help! My skin got worse before it got better on my face.. I used to get acne on my back which cleared up before I went on Tane and unfortunately this drug has brought it all back out again, I asked my derm and she said that it’ll clear up either your shoulders ect first or your face (although I don’t know you suffer with your back) It got really bad at about month 3 and is getting better again now, but everyone is different! I like you have had all the side effects your describing – On most days I feel about 80! Try and ask your GP for doublebase or Dermol shower wash and apply these lotions as often as possible and it’ll help the dryness! Palmers coco moisturiser s good for your lips too, I used vaseleine for ages and it didn’t work at all! I hope I can help if you need anything! xx

hi louise,
ive nearly finished month two so am at about the same stage as you. i went from 35mg to 70mg and am doing ok. the dry lips are the bain of my life, ive goten through 6 lip balms since ive been on it so pretty much one a week and a few extra floating about the house. im using oilatum to moisturise which is an excma cream but does a very good job. i too was caught out in the sun whilst gardening and came out in a massive crusty burn type rash all up my arm and across the back of my hands. about week 4 i had 3 massive spot type boil things on my chin and along with the dry skin i too looked a mess at work!!! fine if you work in an office but not so good when you work in a hospital clinic with 200 patients a day!!!
i also have the dermol cream which is nice because its not too thick but does the job. came out in approx 10 massive red scabby raised excma type rashes on my arms belly and sides, but phoned my nurse and she said its normal and just keep creaming it.
being on the tablets have made me so much more confident in my self and my abilities too. ive applied for 5 jobs and feel so much better when i get interviews and when i go out for social events. obe of the twins i babysit for who i havent seen for 4 months said to me wow lydia you look so nice whichh made me feel loads better.
hope it contiues to go well for you

Hello I am on week 6 and I too experienced worse acne than I ever had but am now beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel! I am now getting comments about my skin looking better which is Fab! Mine got really bad after only one week on roaccutane so am glad to only have a few spots now however still look a mess with the flaking skin and dry lips!
My main worry is the rash on my arms as I am a nurse and have had to go non clinical as my skin is broken!
Hope your skin starts to clear soon…you will probably find that other people will notice before you!
