Hi, I have been put onto Roccutane by my dermatologist. Really scared regarding all the side effects but she assures me although i will have some side effects I will be fine. I’ve come to the conclusion that everything has side effects and i have an amazing husband who will look out for change in mood etc and is there to help me. He knows how my skin is getting me down and how much i need it sorted. I have had sore lump type spots on my face, back and shoulders since the birth of my second child in 2005. Everything i have tried makes it worse
So this is it – i am really hoping this works and at the same time boost my self esteem and help me loose a little bit of weight as well. Really glad i found this site and will definately use it for help over the next four months. K x
Hi Kirsteen,
How are you getting on? How much have you been perscribed?
I was on 40mg for the first month and now I’m on 60mg.
I’m in week 8 and yes the side-effects are bad but the spots on my chest, back and arms have ALL gone and this happened within the first 2 weeks of the course. My face has improved a lot too, still got a few painful spots and large pores but it is far less oily and my make-up is actually staying put all day : )

Hi Stephanie, thank you for asking. I am on 30mg and this is my third week. I am doing ok. My back is definitely a lot clearer with only a couple of little spots come up this week. My face is calming as well. Had a flair up last week week but it is looking a lot less red and inflammed.
Side effects currently have are dry lips and skin on face, itchy scalp, dry mouth and fatigue which seems to be subsiding a bit. Although i thought my pmt this week has been a bit worse – husband stayed out my way!!! Do feel a lot better today but will mention it when i go to get my bloods taken next week.
I do feel i’m counting the weeks though and looking for a change each day!
So glad you are seeing a big improvement and so quickly. Thank you for posting. x

hi kristen,
im nearly at the end of month 3 and belive me its worth it so stick with it.
like you say you have a lovely hubby to help you abd my boyfriend has been amazing at helping, staying out of the way putting cream on my back and putting up with my moaning.
ive had all the symptons youve said, dry scalp, skin lips the lot. for dry scalp i used polytar which is a excma shampoo in a brown bottle, smells vile but leave it on your scalp for a few mins and it does th job twice a week. lips, well im getting through a lip balm a week and theres no toher way but to pile it on as soon as they get dry and dont go out with out one i once did and it was really unearable.
my redness and inflamed look cleared within the first month and like you i had a massive break out on my chin but havent had any bad ones since.
this is really grose but my wee have been smelling funny so i had a test last week along with my pregnany test and there were traces of blood, so i have to have another one again next week.
ive been told ive lost weight, but i have given up drinking whilst on these tablets, whilst i know you are aloud one or two im being good and taking loads of vitamins and havent drank for just over 4 months.
good luck with the rest of your treatment
