Hi guys.. I started roaccutane last wednesday and must admit Im dreading the side effects! Ive been a sufferer of acne since 11 years old(now 18) and have tried EVERYTHING! (including antibiotics, the pill ect). Im willing to soldier through the side effects but was wondering wether I will actually get any this month with being on such a low dosage of 20mg? Also, does everyone get that ‘initial breakout’, i start my Alevel exams in less than two weeks and could really do without it!
My derm has also told me that because of my weight i will only be going up to 50mg – im scared that this is still low and will consequently result in my acne reappearing in the future? Is this the case?
Would really like some knowlege on these questions! Hope your all finding your course of treatment managable!
Hiya
I started off on 40mg and i would say i didnt notice any dry skin/lips until about 3-4 weeks on them but again everyone is different.
My skin has cleared although still getting some spots but the non greasy hair is good but thats about only thing.
At the moment i’m struggling myself as cannot sleep very agitated and cannot concentrate and feeling very down in the dumps but again dont let it put you off as you may not experience this at all.
I only found this site a few days ago and its been great to know your not alone it really does help.
Hope you’ll get on ok with your exams :0)

Oh. I thought it was just me who couldnt sleep at nights! Before starting roaccutane I would be in bed and alseep no later than 11.. but now I’m lucky if this happens by 2AM. I guess this struggle is worth it, whenever your feeling down just remember the reason why youve started it to help you strive through the hard times.
All the best through the remaining time you have left on roaccutane!x

Hi,
Welcome to the board! I started off on 20 mg in the first month to ease me into it and I did’t get a bad outbreak, just that my skin wasn’t any worse. I noticed my skin improving at about 8 weeks. From reading lots of post most people seem to get outbreaks around 4/5 weeks but you just don’t know. Some people even get outbreaks near the end which is very frustrating but you do have to bare with it and its at the bitter end when you get the results.
I’ve been on roaccutane about 3.5 months and have to say I’ve not found it bad at all. The side effects have been quite mild to be honest. I did a month on 20mg, then a month on 30 mg and I’m now on 60mg for the remaining two months. Even my lips aren’t too bad, i only have to apply blistex in the morning and at night. I find that some side effects come and go. At the beginning I had really dry eyes but now they are fine. I have noticed that since taking 60mg that I’m more tired and I did get a rash on my hands but only for a few days.
I’ve noticed that my skin is much better even now at 3.5 months – I’m so pleased! I actually had my passport photo taken with just tinted moisturiser on, no concealer…. and very important moment I can tell you! Also, left the gym the other day with NO make up on – it’s was amazingly liberating:)
This treatment is very much based on your weight so don’t be concerned about only going up to 50mg as long as you get the full cumulative dose you will be fine. Best of luck with your treatment and keep in touch, like you I started with acne when I was 11 and so wish that I’d done this when I was 18 (I’m now 36!)

Hi
I started five weeks ago on 40mg, and I did have an initial breakout literally within the first two weeks. I think its just different for everyone, but the breakout cleared up within a week and I havent had any new spots since, im not saying they wont come back though..just hoping.
My skin and lips also became very dry literally within the first week, and I havent been lucky enough yet to be blessed with hair that doesnt need to be washed for a week! Im still having to wash mine every couple of days, but alas everyone is different.
Good Luck!
