Hey!
I’m on day 1 of week 22, and I was hoping this would be my last week. However, I went to my dermatologist today and, as I’d had some large spots that hadn’t cleared on my back, she suggested that I did another month at a lower dose (40mg instead of 60mg) so that I dont go over the cumulative dose of 150mg/kg.
The alternative was wait and see what happened and then have another full course if needed. I was not a fan of this option!!
So its another month to go. I think I’m still going to take 60mg per day so that I will finish quicker. I’m pretty downbeat about it all, I’ve just had enough of this completely!
Side effect / skin wise, its showing improvements from a couple of weeks ago and my side effects are stable.
The only thing new that has happened is that I’ve had very sore eyes all week which has resulted in a hospital trip today. I have irritated / scratched corneas along with some other symptoms which are from contact lens wear, and its highly possible that roaccutane has influenced this. So, now I’m treating that too and can’t wear lenses for the near future.
Really hope that my back clears in the next couple of weeks and then I should be done within 4 weeks. If not I will definitely be having a break regardless so at least that’s something to look foward to!

Keep going! You’ve only got 1 month left & I am sure it’s going to be all worth it. X

Hi Becky,
I completely sympathise with you, I have five weeks to go and if I was told I have another month I would lose the plot! I’m also a contact lenses wearer and because of your post I’m going to keep a close eye (excuse the pun) on my eyes. Have they given you any idea how long you won’t be able to wear the lenses for? Did they say it was the dryness that caused this?
Good idea about taking 60mg, go for it and get it over with. How;s the healthy diet going? I’m doing rubbish. Finding the headaches are holding me back and just lacking motivation. Need to get moving got my hols in May.
Take care Becky, hope the next few weeks bring you better news re skin and eyes.

Thanks for your comments guys – it helps to keep me going!
Vanessa – I know what a nightmare. Yes I’m definityely going to keep to 60 and just get it done. It is a more encouraging picture than it was a month ago though. Bizarrely I dont think my skin has ever been as good as it was at the end of month 3!
On the contact lens front, I would tread carefully with them and R, to be on the safe side. The doctors said that its possible contact lenses could have done this by themselves but, after 13 years wear, I and they feel its likely that the combination of R and lenses has probably sent them over the edge. I’ve got a couple of days off work putting eye drops in every hour – I should be ok to wear lenses again after a few weeks but I think I’ll steer well clear until I’ve at least finished the course. The doctor I saw at the hospital was lovely, I was in a right panic by the time I actually got to see a proper doctor!
Still a case of soldiering on, and hoping we get few the next few weeks unscathed, how’s your skin doing?

Hi Becky,
I think I have been a bit complacent when it comes to my lenses as my eyes haven’t felt dry. I will start putting drops in now and maybe take them out in the evening and wear my glasses to give my eyes a rest.
Re my skin, it’s not too bad but got a spot this morning. Like you, my skin seemed better about a month ago than it does now. Not panicking though as I know this is par for course. There is always this niggle at the back of my mind that after R they will come back and for some reason it won’t work for me….. I know I need to be positive!!
Well, it’s Friday and the sun is out so that’s something to be happy about:-)
Have a good weekend

Hi Becky,
A quick note to ask how your eyes are? Hope theyare on the mend and you can soon get rid of the glasses. I got conjunctivitis last week (I think you jinxed me!!:)) so I’m wearing the horrid glasses – I don’t look good in them at all!

Hey V!
Thanks so much for checking – I really appreciate it. They have improved a lot since last week, although they are painful today. I’m going back to the hospital tomorrow and hopefully they’ll give me more of an idea of when I’ll be able to start wearing lenses again. Like you – I am not happy with my glasses on!
I hadn’t had dry eyes at all during my treatment (apart from week 1) so it was the last thing I was expecting. At least we havent got long left eh?!
Hope your eyes get better soon!
