Hi Jenny!

I'm about three months clear of roaccutane now and my scars are continuing to get better. I think roaccutane makes them worse so when you stop you should see that the improvement continues.

I had a real struggle on roaccutane but its got to the point now where my scars are fading and, nearly every time I go out I think "thank god" - it seems to have worked. I only get small spots infrequently and my skin is less oily than it was before.

Hang in there and I hope you continue to see improvements :) xx

Hi there, I'm in week 15 and although all my active spots have gone, I have really bad scarring that looks like dark red/ brown marks. It hasn't changed in the last couple of weeks and I feel like its going to stay forever. I also have really bad pigmentation around my cheeks and upper lip. Did you guys find that the dark marks faded after you finished? Thanks for all the great blog posts. Really helped me during very bad times.

Hi Danielle,
You should be fine, I actually asked my dermatologist if I could go on a break for 2 weeks and she said that's fine, it's still in your system. Doublecheck anyway, but for me it wasn't a problem and was actually a great relief for those couple of weeks!

Hi Danielle, I've been lucky to of had no red marks left, I had a few in the first few months but at this stage in my treatment there's nothing there anymore. Yours should fade in time, hopefully. Good to know your spots have cleared up! Good luck with the nexts few months x

Nice! Do you not have any red marks left either? I'm on my 3rd month on a dosage of 30mg (I was on 20mg for month 1 and then got increased to 30mg), my spots have mostly gone but I've got loads of red marks left! :/

Hi, came across this page while I had a few concerns of my own, about my acne. Basically I got acne almost two years ago up until that point, all my life I would just get a pimple or two every week that would go away by the next day or two up until I got acne. I went to my GP and he gave antibiotics, I only went on two different courses over a year and a half along with creams and lotions, this one lotion would treat the acne pretty well but not treat the problem. I eventually was put forward for Roaccutane and after 4months of being on 70mg a day I am completely clear with minor scarring which can probably be improved with cosmetics, anyways my biggest problem is that after taking this medication (I stopped two weeks ago) I got two pimples (I hope there pimples) but I'm not sure if they normal pimples or acne pimples which could lead to scarring because it's been so long since I can remember what a normal pimple looked liked, so my question is, is it normal to still get maybe minor acne spots coming off the medication? until you stop getting acne or to the point were you are just getting pimples occasionally after you have finished?. I feel like I would be more confident if I was on it for 6 months rather than 4, my Derm told me because I'am clear I don't need to continue so I just took her advice, if anynone has any advice on my question or any real experience it would help. Thank you.

Hi Danielle . . . I finished 6 months on "R" in January, I was left with the red marks where the spots were . . . my dermatologist assured me that these red marks would fade after the course was completed but would probably be several weeks after taking my last tablet . . . this indeed was the case I no longer have any red marks left thankfully (something I thought would never happen :) ) I do still have moderate scarring on my cheeks which I am hoping will continue to fade & reduce . . I have looked at light & laser treatment which I am hoping to be able to have eventually, unfortunately this is unlikely to be available on the NHS . . . good luck with the rest of your course . . . its's well worth it :) xx

Hi . . I finished my 6 month course in January . . . Your GP cannot refuse to refer you . . . the only reason I went private was because I just couldn't wait any more . . I was originally referred by my GP but I was told it would be at least 6 months before I would be seen. You can contact any private hospital and they will let you know when the Dermatologists clinics take place, they will be in contact with your GP . . all you need to do is tell your surgery to send all your notes to the relevant dermatologist . . . this is the route my mum took, I know it is expensive but sometimes you've just got to bypass the local GP's . . . if this isn't an option for you then see another GP at your local surgery and insist that you want to be referred, so long as you were ok with your first course of "R" !!
Good luck & I hope you get sorted . . sometimes a 2nd course is just enough to get rid of these pesky spots once & for all :)

thanks Danielle, it has taken what feels like forever for things to get like this (on reflection its not that long), the red marks have just recently started to fade which im very happy about, I was so worried about being left with scars. I still have little dents but nothing like I thought I would have.
